Computer Upgrades

Upgrade the old computer instead of replacing it.

SSD upgrades, RAM increases, GPU installs, cooling improvements. Extend your existing laptop or desktop's useful life at a fraction of replacement cost. Free assessment of what upgrades your specific system can accept.

Common upgrades

Small changes, dramatic improvements.

Most "slow computer" complaints are solved by two upgrades: SSD and RAM. Combined cost often ₹6,000-12,000 versus ₹40,000+ for a new laptop. If the CPU is still adequate for your work, upgrading almost always makes economic sense.

01

HDD to SSD upgrade

The single most impactful upgrade for any computer with a mechanical hard drive. Boot times drop 4-5x. Application launches feel instant. Overall responsiveness transforms.

Typical cost: ₹4,500-9,000 depending on drive capacity and whether you need OS reinstall or data cloning.

Best for: Any computer with mechanical HDD, especially 3-8 year old business laptops and home PCs.

02

RAM upgrade

More RAM helps when you run multiple applications simultaneously, keep many browser tabs open, or work with larger files. 4GB → 8GB is a noticeable jump; 8GB → 16GB helps power users.

Typical cost: ₹1,800-4,500 depending on RAM speed, type (DDR4/DDR5), and capacity.

Best for: Systems currently at 4GB or feeling constrained at 8GB. Not possible on soldered-RAM laptops (many ultrabooks, MacBook post-2016).

03

Desktop GPU upgrade

For gaming, video editing, 3D work, AI workloads. Newer GPU delivers dramatically better performance. On desktops only — laptops usually can't have GPUs upgraded.

Typical cost: GPU cost varies widely (₹15,000 for entry-level to ₹1,50,000+ for high-end) plus install & testing.

Best for: Desktops with adequate CPU and PSU headroom to support the new GPU.

04

Cooling & thermal service

Old thermal paste, dust-clogged fans, dried thermal pads — common causes of thermal throttling in 3-5+ year old laptops and desktops. Full cleaning + repaste often restores original performance.

Typical cost: ₹1,200-2,500 for laptop; ₹1,000-2,000 for desktop.

Best for: Systems that run hot, throttle under load, or have loud fans. Recommended as preventive maintenance every 2-3 years.

05

Windows / macOS clean install

Fresh OS install eliminates years of accumulated cruft, bloatware, and configuration drift. Often makes a 3-5 year old computer feel new even without hardware changes. Combined with SSD upgrade, dramatic improvement.

Typical cost: ₹1,500-3,000 depending on data backup/restore complexity.

Best for: Any computer that's slow despite adequate hardware, or after a virus/malware infection.

06

PSU upgrade (desktops)

Powering a new GPU or planned future upgrades. Old PSUs also become less efficient and can cause random shutdowns under load. Quality PSU upgrade improves stability and enables future upgrades.

Typical cost: ₹3,500-8,500 depending on wattage and quality tier.

Best for: Desktops with aging PSU, planned GPU upgrades, or unexplained instability.

Assessment first

Not every computer is worth upgrading.

Free upgrade assessment before you commit. We check what your specific system can accept, calculate the total cost, and give an honest opinion on whether it makes economic sense vs replacement.

✓ Upgrade makes sense when...

  • CPU is still adequate for your work (Intel Core i5/i7 3rd gen or newer, AMD Ryzen)
  • Main complaint is slowness → SSD fixes it
  • System is 3-7 years old and in reasonable physical condition
  • Total upgrade cost is under 30-40% of replacement cost
  • You're happy with the laptop's form factor and don't need latest features

✗ Replacement makes more sense when...

  • CPU is inadequate for your work (very old dual-core, Atom, Celeron)
  • Laptop is 8+ years old with limited upgrade paths
  • Multiple things are failing — battery + screen + slow storage
  • Your software needs have outgrown what the CPU can handle
  • Warranty and support benefits of new system matter for business use
Frequently asked

Common questions.

What's the single best upgrade for an old laptop?

SSD replacement, by a wide margin. Replacing an HDD with an SSD is the closest thing to a magic upgrade — boot times drop from 60-120 seconds to 15-30 seconds, application launches feel instant, and overall responsiveness transforms. Cost: ₹4,500-9,000 depending on drive size and installation complexity. Works on almost any laptop under 10 years old with a SATA or NVMe slot.

How much RAM do I actually need?

For basic office/browsing use: 8GB is comfortable, 16GB gives headroom. For heavier work — design, development, running multiple applications, virtualization — 16-32GB. If you have 4GB currently, upgrading to 8GB will feel meaningful. If you have 8GB and it feels tight, going to 16GB helps. Beyond 32GB is only useful for specific professional workloads.

Can I add more RAM to my laptop?

Depends on the laptop. Most business laptops (ThinkPad, Latitude, EliteBook) and mid-range consumer laptops have accessible RAM slots and can be upgraded. Ultra-thin laptops and MacBook (post-2016) usually have soldered RAM — no upgrade possible. We check your specific model and current configuration first.

What about upgrading the graphics card in a laptop?

In most laptops, no — the GPU is soldered to the motherboard. Some gaming laptops with MXM modules allow GPU upgrade but this is rare. Desktops are different — GPU is usually easily upgradable. If you need better graphics performance on a laptop, replacement is usually the practical option unless the laptop already has an eGPU port.

Is upgrading my old computer worth it vs buying new?

Depends on the laptop age, condition, and what upgrades it can accept. General guideline: if the CPU is still adequate for your work, and total upgrade cost is under 30-40% of a new laptop of similar capability, upgrading usually makes sense. If CPU is inadequate or laptop is 8+ years old, replacement is often better. We'll give honest advice.

How long do upgrades take?

SSD swap with fresh OS install: same-day, usually 3-4 hours. SSD swap with data cloning: usually next-day. RAM upgrade: 30-60 minutes install, same-day. Full upgrade (SSD + RAM + cleaning): usually next-day. Timeline given at quote.
